A 40th BIrthday

Not mine, that was a long time ago, celebrated in Bristol, and like most of my birthdays was a bit of a disaster.

No, this weekend was the 40th birthday of the Rudyard Lake Steam Railway, and I never really need an excuse to visit it.. Especially as it was a chance to see many locos from the line's past. As always, it was a fun day. Sadly, I lost a lot of valuable time because Issy insisted that the poodles, and my mother came to, and that she needed a bacon bap before we did anything else. The Station Cafe does do quite a good one.

The result was I only got ninety minutes to take photos, and to chase trains.

  1. I really ought to get down there and check out the railway as it's not too far from home. Maybe even take the kayak.

    1. Always best when there is an event on and an intensive service, but worth a visit whenever it is running. The engine shed is full of interesting locos even when nothing is visiting. I'm hoping next year there will be a Minimal Meet Up with visiting 7 1/4" gauge locos on a portable line, but planning is in the very early stages

    2. I found some coach bodies next to the lake when canoeing there many years ago, which ended up at Foxfield. https://paulthehalfwit.blogspot.com/2014/01/grounded-van-bodies-6.html

    1. "Manx wallabies, sir! Thosands of them!" Well, apparantly around a thousand according to the most recent figures. Sadly our local Peak District population died out.

    2. Something we love about moving here from the fens is that the bacon baps are so much better here. More bacon, better bread.
